Troutbeck-Why visit?

May 31, 2019

Troutbeck has been a part of the tourism scene in Zimbabwe for over 45 years, giving it all the experience it needs to host guests in utmost comfort and style. The log fire in the reception area is a firm favourite, and guests come from across the world to enjoy the gentrified country club atmosphere of this premium destination. The resort was built and founded by Major Herbert Maclwaine in 1947 and has undergone considerable improvements over the years, however, its famous log fire has not been put out since it was lit at Troutbeck’s opening all those years ago.

Being 2200 metres above sea level, with the surrounding mountains climbing to 2593 metres above sea level, Troutbeck offers some of the most breathtaking views. Because of its ideal location it is perfect for guests to explore the scenic beauty of Nyanga and savour the crisp mountain air. Troutbeck boasts a total of 70 beautifully styled rooms including 13 twin rooms, 24 double rooms, 32 deluxe rooms and one family room. Twin rooms have twin beds, satellite TV, tea and coffee making facilities and an en-suite bathroom with a shower and bath.

The deluxe rooms face the Macllwaine Lake and come with all of the above facilities and one king-sized bed. The family room has a main bedroom with one double bed, an inter-leading bedroom with twin beds and a study/reading desk. It also comes with a fridge, two satellite TVs, tea and coffee making facilities and an en-suite bathroom with a shower and bath. All rooms have oil heaters, under-floor heating, wall to wall carpeting and hairdryers, so you’ll definitely be able to stay warm if you visit in the winter months.

The garden at Troutbeck is perfect for a lovely picnic and with the delicious baskets provided by the kitchen, you will not want more. If you want to go on a day excursion, the kitchen staff will be happy to provide a packed breakfast and lunch. The Troutbeck Resort offers something for everybody from those who enjoy the outdoors, to the bookworms who prefer to sink into a soft couch and catch up on their reading. You can go trout fishing at the lake or play a round of golf on the pristine 9-hole course, or play a game of tennis, snooker, squash or volleyball, go bowling or take a dip in the swimming pool.

If you want to try your hand at trout fishing in the well-stocked lake with three types of trout, you’ll need your own fishing tackle. Once you’ve managed to land that prize specimen our kitchen staff will be happy to expertly prepare your catch. Other facilities offered at the Troutbeck Resort include a games room with board games, darts, billiards and table tennis, an outside kiddies playground, a shop, as well as laundry and babysitting services.

The Troutbeck Resort has also become known as a conference and wedding venue and the gardens and sun lounge are open for private ceremonies and weddings. The Rainbow Trout suite can accommodate up to 250 delegates and the Brown Trout boardroom has beautiful wooden furnishings and a magnificent view from its huge glass doors. All conference venues are air-conditioned (or heated in winter) and include TV/DVD, overhead projectors, flip charts, white boards and message boards.
