Art at Parc

Jan 25, 2019

The Parc Ferme restaurant in Sandton has become well-known for its Afro-Fusion cuisine and is one of the trendiest spots for friends to gather. The restaurant has now become a little cooler with an installation of art works by renowned South African artist, Simphiwe Mlangeni.

Selected works by Mlangeni now grace the walls of the Parc Ferme, to the delight of art lovers throughout the area. The artist often refers to himself as a member of the “new Soweto lost generation”, an allusion to his diverse background.

“We are immensely grateful to have such a fantastic artist’s work in our establishment. We are great supporters of art, and having South African art grace our restaurant is a privilege,” says Leon Labuschagne, Manager of Parc Ferme.

Mlangeni’s work is raw, primal and intriguing. He works mostly in monochrome, using enamel paint instead of acrylic, unlike most artists. He describes his work as being part of the “Superblur” movement – a movement that uses the definition of the word ‘blur’ as its core element and focuses on the unclear, the less distinct as well as things that are not seen or heard.

“Parc Ferme acquired the pieces to add some artistic flair to the venue. The classic chic imagery blends well with the atmosphere we create at the restaurant,” Lubuschagne concludes.
